New Jersey Tap Ensemble is New Jersey's first statewide non-profit tap dance company. Founded by professional tap dancer Debra Mitchell in1994, the organization is not a school for tap dance, but a company with a mission to preserve and perpetuate the art form of rhythm tap dancing.

The mission is fulfilled through the development of new tap works, concert performances, community outreach and programs in arts education.

This ethnically diverse company is made up primarily of New Jersey artists that represent more than half of New Jersey's 21 counties.

New Jersey Tap Ensemble is a company that serves as a training ground for those tap artists who desire to reach a level of proficiency beyond the dance school experience and a performance vanue for the accomplished dancer to continue their creative development.
